Beijing +30, How Far? How Does the Real Man Campaign Resonate with the Agenda of COP?

The Community of Practice on GBV to which Network AID is a member is a community of organisations with shared values and ideas that advocate for a safe space for women and girls and build its community's capacity through training, learning, and sharing. it is a community that brings women and men together. In observance of the 16 days of activism, the COP on GBV embarked on a multi-stakeholder dialogue on gender justice and accountability, in informing the people, radio discussion at Skyy Radio on the progress made on the Beijing Declaration and how the Real Man Campaign aligns with the COP agenda. Madam Mantie of She Can We Can and Rev. Ann-Marie Caulker King of Commonwealth Business Women Sierra Leone served as panellists while Wurie Mamadu Tamba Barrie moderated the discussion. Madam Mantie and Rev Ann-Marie highlighted the background of the Beijing Declaration and Platform of Action, and the impact of the declaration 30 years on has influenced the passing and implementation of gender-friendly laws in Sierra Leone - the three gender laws, the Child Rights Act, the Sexual Offences Act, the Gender Equality and Women Empowerment Act, the Sexual Offences Court, the Radical Inclusion Policy etc. "It is because of this declaration that myself, Rev Ann-Marie, and others are now speaking up" Madam Mantie.

The Real Man Campaign launched by Her Excellency the First Lady of the Republic of Sierra Leone Fatima Jabbie Maada Bio is a direct involvement of men to advocate against violence and abuse meted out to women and girls across the board. Rev Ann-Marie and Madam Mantie emphasised that the Real Man Campaign is about men supporting women and girls, equality at home, standing up for women, involving more men, and taking positive actions towards women.
