The United Nations Development Program (UNDP) In Collaboration with the DSTI conducted two days of training and three days of data mapping exercise of the informal sector.
From 26 November 2024 to 30 November 2024, the training was held at the UNDP office in Freetown. The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) is a global development agency that aims to eradicate poverty and reduce inequalities through sustainable development. The DSTI is a government initiative and framework to enhance digital transformation and delivery services through technology.

The purpose of the mapping is to collect data on the informal sector and analyze the informal sector in the central part of Freetown. The data collection process is based on observational methods rather than direct interaction, data observers utilise mobile devices to record their findings in real-time. The informal sector mapping is crucial because it helps understand the economic contributions, informs policy and planning, enhances visibility and recognition and improves access to services.
When on-site data mapping, I observed limited informal businesses in a particular location with more formal businesses.
