COMMUNITY OF PRACTICE-KOINADUGU ON GBV: KICK GBV OUT CAMPAIGN

Community of Practice Koinadugu, with its ongoing Kick GBV Out Campaign on the 16 Days of Activism, with funds from the Embassy of Ireland has been and still 

embarking on a series of amplified actions and activities such as school outreach, community outreach, community jogging, and religious houses involvement in Koinadugu District with a simple and appropriate targeted audience message on school-related gender-based violence and abuse, the abolition of child marriage under 18 years, female genital mutilation, sex for grade, teachers code of conduct, sexual penetration, teenage pregnancy,  gender friendly policies and penalties. 


On the eve of the 16 days of activism, COP-Koinadugu unveiled the KICK GBV OUT Banner at the Kabala Central Clock Tower that laid the platform for the full-blown rolled-out of the campaign. Members utilized the space to provide an overview of the importance and need of the campaign and its activities. The Children's Forum Network Koinadugu sang a song dedicated to women.  Since Day 1 of the 16 days of activism, pupils and school administrators were engaged in the teachers' code of conduct, professional guides, and school safety policies. In contrast, religious leaders engaged their congregation on FGM, and the abolition of the child marriage act and the communities were engaged in the laws and policies relating to gender-based violence and abuse and the reporting pathway


Schools that have been reached so far are Kabala Secondary School, LOMA Secondary School, Ahmadiyya Secondary School, and Kabala Girls Secondary School, respectively, with approximately 2500 pupils, students, and administrators reached. While 500 community people reached Kanuka, Kabala Township, Thunder Hill, and Dogoliya communities. At Yogomaia Central Mosque and Wesleyan Church, with approximately 1000 worshipers. Her Future Foundation is coordinating the campaign with support from the Children's Forum Network, Rainbo Initiative, and Network AID.

 

The goal is to create awareness with immediate and long-lasting outcomes of the campaign on gender-based violence in bringing every person onboard to take responsibility against GBV . This campaign signifies the dire need for sustained and in-depth interventions on gender-based violence in Koinadugu District with10 Chiefdoms.
